V. this morning at 11 o’clock, vest as the result of which Superintendent I oarr of Bridges John MoMiJlen and Wm. | evei 3C. Punteney, a bridge carpenter, were badly injured.The accident occurred at Cooper's run bridge, about one mile west ol|Wi! the Arion tunnel. Supt-. McMillan and a force of ten men were repairing the bridge over Cooper’s run, putting j-J in new timbers. About 11 o’clock yyj this morning, as Carpenter Punteney was standing on a new cross brace, which was being put in, the supports gave way and the heavy timber feU to the bottom of the creek, a .distance of about fifteen feet, carrying punteney with it. At the time Superintendent McMillan was standing on the ground beneath the brace, directing the work.The heavy timber came crashing down without a moment's warning and struck McMillan squarely on the head, crusihng him to the earth and endering him unconscious. Punteney was also knocked senseless.The other workmen picked the unfortunate men up and succeeded in reviving them. The noon passenger train came along and the injured men were brought to this city, I g It was found that Mr. McMillan was/badly bruised and cut on the head, but there was no fracture. His neck was sprained. The shock was severe and at times he was delirious.When seen.by a Times reporter at, f; the Junction Hotel he was ratioual and told the story of the accident, as given above. Mr. McMillan was taken to his home in Otway on thepassenger train at 2:05.Mr. Punteney was taken to hisLj boarding house on Tenth street. He a had his hip thrown out of joint and 0 was badly bruised and shaken up. Lj His home is at Turkey Creek and lie 11( has been working for the C. P. Y. 1 _ as bridge carpenter for about a year j r and a half.Supt.
