e1Altos Organs.—Mr. Joseph Gratian, of ^this city, the well known pipe organ build- t}ie er, has just finished a magnificent piece of tow workmanship for the Presbyterian church ««of Hannibal, Mo., that for beauty anil qual- - ^ ity of tone, as well as the general design, ,heeouifinish and arrangement of the organ thr ugh-wut. reflects T«««h credit upon the builderSeveral new improvements have been ma ie. j (jje original with Mr. Gratian, that give addi tional character and completeness to the j I tone, one of these never before in use. j clot The pipes were made in Reading, Mass., I La*but the entire work and ornamentation was laydone by Mr. Gralian. The case is ma le of bar solid black walnut, and the instrument is, , oneIn all respects, equal to the best in She Stn..nniu, and cost $2,000. The height is 21*feet, 12 in width, and A\ feet deep. It h.t-23 stops, 2 manuals and pedals, and contains all the latest improvements, including a new method of compounding a full organ.This consists of a stop having a knob, a little larger than the others, placed above j ^ the keys of the swell organ. It draws in a ^ line with the player, not at right angles, as j in the other stops. It brings on the full ot- j tri. gen, also couples swell to great, and great to pedals, instantly. This is an entirely new idea, original with the builder, and incorporated for the first time in this organ.The organ is built to suit the position of the church behind the pulpit, and is only four and a half feet deep, although really a larger organ than most of the organs in this city. Mr. Gratian has been in the business about seventeen years in Oton,1 and has gained a wide reputation for bis wi work. The fine organ in Hr.
