An overnight camping stay at Seech Lake included barbe-qued bison burgers, swimming, boating, and tubing. Local beeswax candles or honey were available for purchase from Raven Creek Farms. The New Brunswick visitors specifically wanted to see a rodeo, so an afternoon was spent at the Selkirk Rodeo and Midway. Comfortable accommodation was found at the Canadian Mennonite University dorms. The Manitoba group's main fundraiser was recycling at the Rossburn Recycling Depot for six months. Lots of team spirit and support of parents helped to cover other costs.Off to the MaritimesThe New Brunswick host families were very generous in welcoming the enthusiastic Manitoba members and chaperones back into their homes. The trip down east began with a welcome pizza party. A day in Sussex included a tour of an industrial milk plant called Dairytown, an Agricultural Museum, Princess Louise Park Show Centre (that promotes agriculture), welcoming from the mayor at Town Hall, andshopping at the Farmer'sMarket. They were thrilled to see a big, and graceful finback whale, also grey sealsand harbour seals that were resting on rocks, and an aquaculture site where salmon are raised. The group enjoyed learning about the marine life of Atlantic Canada at the Huntsman Marine Science Centre in St. Andrews. A touch pool had many invertebrates (animals without backbones) you could handle, such as starfish and scallops. Hopewell Rocks are one of the most awe-inspiring attractions. Carved by the mighty tides, these natural sculptures are as tall as five-story buildings that rise from the shore of the Bay of Fundy. The next stop for the group was the Confederation Bridge, followed by New Brunswick's favorite swimming beach. Swimming in Parlee Beach was the ultimate beach experience, boasting some of the warmest saltwater north of Virginia. The group visited Shediac and had their picture taken with the largest lobster in the world! Delegates and families joined for one final evening together. A send off barbeque and pool party kicked off a wonderful evening of memory sharing, laughs and good times.Time spent with both host families was a rewarding experience that the Rossbum participants will remember and value for years to come. All of the 4-Hers deemed the trip an overwhelming success. The Canadian 4-H Council sponsored the exchange, and travel was funded by Exchanges Canada of the Department of Canadian Heritage (Government of Canada).4-H members from Rossbum, Olha and Silverton were twinned with 10 4-Hers from New Brunswick this summer.
