77/£ EPHRAIM ENTERPRISE, EPHRLarry Nielson BackFrom European TripLarry Nielson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen J. Nielson, returned last week from a six week tour of Sweden where he was associated as tutor and production manager with the nationally-known Osmond Brothers, who have appeared on the Andy Williams TV show for several seasons. This was the third singing tour which the vocalists have made in Sweden ; however, this was the first trip which included the entire Osmond family. The Osmonds, a Utah family, lived in Huntsville until a few years ago, when they moved to Los Angeles, where the boys engaged in extensive singing engagements and TV appearances. The Huntsville home Is still maintained, however, even though most of the time the family lives on the West coast.Mr. and Mrs, George Osmond are the parents of eight sons and one daughter. The two oldest sons are serving missions in Canada and never perform professionally with the group. Of the six remaining boys, five perform regularly on the Andy Williams Show; however, on the Swedish tour all six of the younger boys and a nine year old daughter also performed. Their ages ranged from 18 to 4 years. The singing group had a tremendous reception in Sweden, being acclaimed the most popuRefreshlng the Nation's EconomyWhat is the brewing industry worth to the American economy? For four weeks they performed two shows a day at Folk Parks in most of the major towns and cities in Sweden. During the last two weeks they appeared at Bern’s Restaurant, one of Europe’s outstanding eating establishments, which is over 100 years old, and which is impressively elegant and distinguished. The young performers were mobbed and mauled everywhere they went, and signed hundreds of autographs all over Sweden, but despite the excess attention, they remained unaffected and genuinely appreciative of their success..The Osmond Brothers and their entire family present a delightful, wholesome, uplifting image wherever they go, and this is undoubtedly a part of their appeal. They are excellent ambassadors for both the United States and the LDS Church. The family attended LDS Church services in Sweden, and there they and Mr. Nielson were invited to sing together.During part of the tour the group were followed by Swedish TV production people preparing a feature on the Osmond family for a future TV show. The hospitality and friendliness of everyone with whom they came in contact with was truly remarkable. The show which the Osmonds performed had been staged by Jack Regas, who is affiliated with the Andy Williams Show. Mr. Nielson met Mr. Regas in Hawaii where he was director of the Polynesian production at the Polynesian Cultural Center at Laie. Later Larry was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Regas and their family for seven months while he lived in Los Angeles. While in Sweden members of the tour met many top entertainers and did some sightseeing. Mr. Nielson was impressed with the simplicity and beauty of this part of Scandinavia. The summer season in this northern country is short but spectacular with its long days and complete absence of darkness. He couldn’t help noting the similarity of face and feature of the Swedish citizens with those here In Ephraim. The names, of course, were also the same as those at home.An interesting sidelight of the trip was a visit with Elder Parry Olson, missionary son of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Olson. He is doing outstanding work and is so engrossed in working with the Swedish people that he and Larry had a little trouble speaking English together. Larry states that the members have a deep respect and love for Elder Olson. In Stockholm the group came upon an anti-American demonstration of 509 paraders carrying signs denouncing American policy in Vietnam and Detroit. There was no violence, but the experience was sobering. This and all the other experiencs on. the tour were very educational and led to a deeper appreciation of both Europe and America. On the return trip Mr. Nielsonstopped in England and spen: some time with Mr. and Mrs Frank (Norma) Allen, who livec in Ephraim for a short time Iasi year before going to Englanc where Mr. Allen is stationed witf the U.S. Air Force. Larry anc the Allens went to London for £ day and had a wonderful time sightseeing and visiting.Mr. Nielson is grateful for the opportunity which he has hac of traveling in Europe and ol being associated with the Os mond family. At the present time he is staying at the home of hie parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen J, Nielson. His future plans Include a trip to Hawaii.DOG POUND-stray in new surrounding wltl little alternative but to starve The City has a cat carrier/ If you want a cat taken to thlt; Valli Hi Animal Hospital, call £ police officer and he will safely transport the animal to its des tination. All of us owe the Ephraim City administration our sincere gra titude for this wonderful stej forward. Children taught love and kindness for animal Iife: transfer these qualities to theii human relationships and rarely become delinquent. Children de nied this teaching are cruel tc animals, entering an area where the tendency is to transfer this cruelty to humans. The results can be fearful. Experts on crime have found that crimes committed on humans, were, In many instances, first committed on animals. We cannot outwit our Creator and God will not be mocked. If you don’t teach kindness to animals to children, you have left them spiritually crippled.“He who is cruel to a poor dumb animal,, at that moment disqualifies himself for the companionship of the Holy Spirit.” —Pres.
