ACTORS’ UNION SENDS OUT FACTSActors’ Union Sends Out Statement in Reg-ard to HarryMountfordNew York, Aug. 11, 1916. To the Officers and Delegates of theCentral Labor Union.Greeting:The Actors’ International Union, an organization of theatrical performers affiliated with the American Federation of Labor for over sixteen years previous to the amalgamation with the White Rats of America, an independent theatrical association, submit the inclosed circular for the information and guidance of your body in any conferences you may hold with the representatives of the White Rats Actors’ Union of America. We would refer your central body to the New York Central Federated Union, who have upheld the reputation and standing of the Actors’ International Union since the violation of all agreements with the former White Rats, the American Federation of Labor through its president and other national officers have been engaged in trying to regulate the situation in so far as trying to reorganize and create a real actors’ organization, affiliated to the American Federation of Labor, conferences have been held, but of no avail, as those in charge of the destinies of the White Rats are only interested in trying to create funds to save a foolish investment of all the funds of that order in a club house situated in New York City, which investment is a proven criminal transaction. The Actors’ International Lnion refuse to further confer with the White Rats Actors’ Union for the purpose of creating an entire new national organization for the reason that the White Rats refuse to allow any person but their international secretary to speak and act for them. While he was with us in our fight for justice for over four years, we have found at this time that lie is of the class of men that should not be entitled to the respect and confidence of the wage earners of this country. We hold the inclosed proofs of his digression from the straight and honorable path of trades unionism, and while we are willing to meet at any time or place at the direction of the A. F. of L. any person or persons who are working to bring about an understanding that will assist the theatrical performers of this country, we refuse to do any further business with one, Harry Mountford, a creator of destructive organizations for pay.Wfe ask that you demand of the White Rats Actors’ Union and Harry Mountford the proofs that he is not guilty, as charged, failing to do scr that your honorable body refuse to transact any business with any ocm-mittee thai of which he may be a part.Respectfully and fraternally yours, HARRY DE VEAUX, President.
