Mr. B. baa engaged, or arranged preliminaries with some artists of superior merit for performances,1 and as a sample, he intends to open the sea-; son with MebuPs splendid opera of 11 Joseph and his Brotherswith Mr. Kir ex as Joseph. The opera is one of the most beautiful ever written—abounding witli rich melodies, sud excelling in superior instrumentation, indicating MeknPs master-genius in every part. The text is taken from the Bible, and treats of Joseph/s delivery to tlie Egyptians, and his subsequent fortunes. We have heard a portion of the opera at rehear-sals, and would particularly mention tlie airs and songs of Jc^ephi Benjamin and Jacob.We hope Mr. Balatea will be as success* ful in L.U new undei taking. as he lias Ixwu in the Musical direction of the Musical Society.—Free Dtmocrat.
