She was horn in the city ofYokohama, where she attended school• • * . *until her father and mother became eager to see the new world .and tookher with them to thie Pan-American• ’ * »- * * *•* •** • *Exposition, where they gave exhibitions in the Japanese Village. The mother gave exhibitions in Japanese magic, while the father demonstrated his ability as a foot juggler, using little Tetu as a human hall, tossing her about and turning her somersaults to the delight of the spectators. After the close of the exposition the little family traveled over the country giving their novel performances in the leading vaudeville theatres, un-!til the Russia-Japan war broke out,•and the father, 'like many other brave■» .little men from the land of the chrysanthemum, started with his fam-iily to the Orient, to answer the call of the Mikado. :He arrived in. his na-Itive land in time to be sent to the scene of hostilities, and took part in the charge on. Port ^Arthur, and like many other brave little fellows, metIhis.fate. The loss of life was so[enormous that the rush of blood downjfthe..mountain side changed the 1-ily-Jwhite snow to the color of crimson ibefore the Russian -Stronghold yield-Ied to the demands of the Japs to surrender. After the war was over, Tetu# 1 • • • ^ . . * •and her mother came to America with ’another troupe of Japanese with whom -it became the duty of the another to♦ t I • . • : , • •Imake balloon ascensions and parachute drops, while Tetu gave exhibi-a *. * * • • . * '( * • * i * • *tions on a wire stretched betweentwo poles. One afternoon at a county fair on the Pacific Coast, the mother took -her dai'Iy trip heavenward, and when about the height of three thousand feet a pistol shot informed her to cut the parachute loose from the balv loon. Upward the balloon continued to travel before the sand bags overturned it, and downward came the parachute with its speck of humanity. The spectators stood with hated breath expecting to see the parachute open at any moment but alas, the story Is told in a very few words— “another life blotted out for the amusement of the public.” The little band of mourners laid the body in the last resting place with the sacred rites of their land, and 'placed a slab with Japanese ^inscriptions on it and continued on their journey to fil’l the dates for which they held contracts.Little Tetu remained with the troupe until about two years ago, at which time they were giving exhibitions with the famous Robinson Shows. One afternoon she told her sad story in broken English to Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Robinson and said she was being badly abused by her fellow performers, erstwhile self-appointed guardians. Mr. Robinson investigated the case and a few days later little Tetu became the adopted daughter of the Robinsons, and has since forgotten the sorrows of her younger days, as she .is now content-ed and is the pet of all the show people. Tetu takes great delight in giving public exhibitions and although a skilled performer in many acts, Mr. Robinson thinks that her performance on the slender wire twice daily is enough exercise for her. 'She will be seen at the Mid-Summer Carnival next week in conjunction with the many free acts which will be presented 'by the Famous Robinson Shows.Ittclt;ItC(1•]c1ii1IHARVEST HOME FESTIVALFlora Has Big Celebration Three DaysThis Week. The following is the program of/the Harvest Home Celebration to be.given at Flora, Wednesday, Thursday and• * * * ».**•“ . • • , i • , •Friday of this week:. * * / . • * . . • * *.•*'' ' '.Wednesday, August 25, 1909. .10:00 a. m.—Draft Stallion Show.11:00 a. m.—Light Harness Horse3,.TW.affr TTnrcoc
