State Museum Has New Indian Beadwork ExhibitThe Missouri State Museum has placed on display a new exhibit containing Indian beadwork, according to Gerald Massie, museum director and assistant director of the Division of Commerce and Industrial Development.The collection of Musquakie beadwork is a gift of the late Miss Mary Alicia Owen of St. Joseph. “Many of the items have been on display in the museum for some time, however, this is the first time they have been coordinated into a complete exhibit,” Massie explained.Miss Owen was bom In St. Joseph in 1856 and became a famous folklorist in both Britian and the United States and authored several books dealing with the life and customs of theIndians, Negroes and Gypsies in the U.S. during the Late 1800*s.“The Missouri collection is one of special and unique importance because the only other display of this kind in the world is located in the Cambridge, ‘England, University Museum and was also a gift of Mrs. Owen,” said Harold Shelton, Museum technician, who designed and built the exhibit!
