3,500 Attend theBig Chili PicnicIn Mizer’s GroveFor many years the residents of the territory in the northeastern corner of Coshocton county, the southeastern corner of Holmes county and the central western portion of Tuscarawas .county, with Chili in Crawford township, Coshocton county as the pivotal point, have held what is known in the three counties as the “ Chili picnic.” Originally it was a sort ot “harvest gathering” or a meeting when the harvest of the year had been gathered and stored: then it was a sort of a Sunday school pic-ni'c of Crawford township; now it has expanded and grown that it takes in several townships, with Chili as the central place of meeting. The in-j dividual who siiggested ’the first picnic eould not have comprehended the immensity of the present day gatherings, for like the oak of the forest, it overshadows ail others in point _ of numbers, of sociability and of admirable addresses, made generally by ministers, whp are serving or have served the congregations in that community.The “Chili picnic” for 190!) will go down in history as being held on a day, perfectly ideal, and with a crowd of immense proportions, the figures plaeed as high as fhifM), and probably not too high at that guess.
