She is a complete entertainer, and tho she is center stage for nearly the entire film, one never tires of her pure voice and intelligent acting. I wish she was given more music. If she has a fault it's that her dramatic acting is occasionally loo perfect and flirts with sterility. Tho camera docs most of the work in her much celebrated striptease.The film has been ■ long time In the editing room and It shows. The result is an cxtravaganta with no focus. Surely director Blake Edwards (Miss Andrew*’ husbondl can’t be serious with this ancient story line And, yet, there are moments when Miss Andrews seems to be playing for keeps. Or Is il a romance! If so. Hudson and Miss Andrews ought to see n marriage counselor.Edwards has spent more tlmo arranging aerial combat sequences. English countryside panoramas, and trainwreeki than deciding what manner of story be wanted to toll.
