Historians To Conduct Indian Conference HereOutstanding historians andI -¥university present-day American Indians will gather at Defiance College Saturday, Oct. 4 to conduct a conference on “The Historic Indian in Ohio”.Dedicated to understanding the role of the native American in Ohio and the Old Northwest, the conference is sponsored by the Ohio American Revolution Bicentennial Advisory Commission, one of several themes being staged by the commission over a two-year period.Educators who will conduct the conference and their topics include: Dr. Reginald Horsman, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, “American Indian Policy of the United States During the Revolution and Its Aftermath in Ohio;” Dr. James O’Donnell, Marietta College,“The Revolution’s Impact on the Ohio Indians;” Dr. Richard Knopf, Kent State University, “The Indian Wars in Ohio;” Dr. Carl Klopfenstein, Heidelberg College, president of the Ohio Academy of History, “The Removal of the Ohio Indians;” Dr. James Clifton, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, “The Post Removal Aftermath;” Randall Buchman, Defiance College, “The Indians of Ohio, Who and Where.”Two American Indians who are Xenia residents will discuss“The Indian Today in Ohio.” They are Tukemas, principal chief of the Shawnee Nation Tecumseh Confederacy, and Nasnaga, chief of the Warrior Society, Shawnee Nation.Moderating morning and afternoon sessions in Schomburg Auditorium will be Dr. Thomas Smith, director of the Ohio Historical Society, Dr. Michael Devine, administrator of the Ohio American Revolution Bicentennial Advisory Commission.Additional information is
