There were many Indies in the party from up the river and they took part in the festivities and had as pleasant^ day ns did the men. The Newporters did all in:their power to make thing3 pleasant f0r the visitors and succeeded inevery lirieV • •: ~ ^Most'of the visitors came down on' the steamer Elheron, which was a little, late in arriving and finally landed al a different wharf from the one jCKpected. However, the wailing automobiles dashed over from Sulli* •yafi’e wharf to Long wharf and picked Uj We visitors as fast as possible.- litany others had/coine down by auto-rirtdule and arrived here before the boat; .The tiay’s program called for *n b’ali gaifie and sports at Freebody Park. The Newport team carried off the baseball honors and won the cup, completely outclassing their oppo-. nents. After the sports an excellent dinner was served at the Beach and then the visitors were taken in automobiles around the city, being cn^ tertained at.Land's End, the residence of Governor and Mrs. Beeckrnan. Afterward the party proceeded to, the new home of Newport Lodge. at Bellevue avenue and Pelham street, and bad nn opportunity to admire the handsome property, being ftir-thirf rofreshed by their hospitablehosts.The ladies in the party were the 4 special gucsls of the recently formed . ladies' auxiliary to Newport Lodge, of which Mrs. John T. Allan is the .‘president.
