The Reunion of the Pioneers.It is scarcely necessary to say what nearly everybody, with “his sisters and his cousins and his aunts,” was there to learn for himself,—that it surpassed the most sanguine anticipations. A kind Providence certainly smiled upon the occasion. The smile had been felt in the thriving crops of the early summer, in the abundant wheat harvest gathered under cloudless skies, had been prolonged in the copious showers that came with new life to the fields of corn, and now culminated in the mellow sun-light tinged with the first hueB of the coming autumn, and in the air purified from the dust and made delightful as though it were prepared especially for the “harvest home” in this first reunion of the pioneers of Fayette county on Thursday, August. 14, in the year of our Lord 1879.
