The musicalcelebration will be from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 28, at the Alaskaland CivicCenter.According to Vicki Thayer, public education director for FRA and JAZZALASKA coordinator, proceeds will be used to install sprinkler systems at two of the agency’s residential facilities.The four-man band plays “anything from bee bop to funk,” according to leader and saxaphonist Bryan Dickerson.Dickerson, who has lived most of his life in Fairbanks, is known locally for his work both with Noyz in the Hood and the Flyers. Previously, he played for three years on the road with the Glenn Miller Band.The JAZZALASKA program will focus on jazz favorites from Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock, he said, although the band will also do some improvisation and solos.Besides Dickerson, the ensemble includes drummer Adam Wool, a longtime jazz player who founded Hot Licks with his brother, Geoffrey. Adam Wool is currently a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but is back in town for the summer.Keyboard player Nick Boseck is a freelance musician from Los Angeles who also writes his own music. Bass player John Keech is a student at the University ofheadline JAZZALASKA.Alaska Fairbanks who has lived most of his life in Tok.Wool, Boseck and Keech may also be familiar to recent fair-goers as members of the band Kix, from performances there.Tickets for JAZZALASKA are$20, which includes a Cajun buffet to be catered by Charlie T’s Smokehouse, a complimentary beverage and a chance to win a 1953 MG TD Roadster replica, appraised at $17,600.The pale yellow two-seater convertible was a gift to the agency from an anonymous benefactor, Thayer said.
