Influencing their original compositions and arrangements tosome extent have been such personalities as John Lee Hooker, Rufus Thomas. Jimmy Reed and Chuck Berry.While recently playing at the 2nd Fret in Philadelphia, the long - haired musicians — Medulla Oblongata on rhythm guitar, J. Carlile Van Osten of lead guitar. John Porsche on bass, Jim Smith on drums and Novae Harvey on harmonica and tamborine —• broke the traditional folk singing atmosphere of the coffee house, and had people dancing in their seats and waitresses in the aisle.When asked after one of their nightly shows to do a live radio show for station WPEN of Philadelphia at the _ Ben Franklin Hotel, the groupaccepted the invitation, andcaused a mild form of hysteria among the people in the lobby who moved to the rhythmic beat, and laughed at the witty answers of spokesman Harvey.Before joining the Little Flowers.” Harvey played just about everything including the harmonica and kazoo with Jim Kwesten’s Jug Band with which he toured Europe andAustralia. 1 made two albums. and appeared at the Newport Folk Festival. He also played with a few other groups including the Search-9 %ers.Van Osten played with a group that made television appearances including the Steve Allen Show, and played atthe Newport Jazz Festival. Oblongata, before taking to rock n’ rool, was a well known folk singer for three years, appearing in the Bucks County and Philadelphia area.Beginning this Sunday for three Sundays, the L i t t 1 e Flowers” will be appearing at The Cellar in the Levittown Shopping Center from 8:30 p.m.Plans for the future for the Little Flowers” include an . appearance at the Night Owl \ coffee house in Greenwich Village, appearances at t h e shore as well as in BucksCounty.
