A number of the summer residents at Peaks Island have been defrauded by a smooth stranger the past -week. A well dressed man, who had been boarding at the island for several weeks, and had made, a wide acquaintanceship, exhibited a fine brand of whisky, of which he claimed to have a large lot at his disposal. He booked the names of a dozen or more customers to whom he promised to deliver all the way from ' one to a half dozen quarts. The customers paid in advance. '
