PostersBy EMMA L. ROCHEWPA Art Director Posters are in such general use and so many school children are called upon to produce them that the exhibition of posters opening today at the Mobile Federal Art Gallery should be of a very practical value.*There are number of originaldesigns done under the WPA federal art project. These, though done for specific purposes, represent a definite movement to vance poster art in America. Subjects are varied, ranging from announcements of exhibitions and theatre productions to posters done for various educational campaigns.Included in the display is a miniature equipment used in the screen, process of reproduction. This process was inventedcenturies ago by the Chinese but only recently has it come into general use in this country. The only limitation of this process is that artists must confine themselves to as few colors as possible and thus reduce the time of production. As many as 16 colors can be used in posters if enough is given to produce^ the job, and as many as 10,000 posters can be made from one silk screen. To reproduce a poster by this process the design is traced and cut on profilm, which then adhered to the silk screen frame. The various colors of the design are reproduced by passing a squeegee over the silk screen with sufficient paint to' penetrate the open mesh not covered by the profilm. \This exhibition is one of a sent out from Washington to Mobile by Holgar Cahill, director of the federal art project. The gallery and museum are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.moivisilowCulnuratDneonWacou€FT!AilfRuA.meFriLothlt;WinwLn
