Price, and was known for many years e | as Price’s Station. The postoffice was : called Griffin in honor of Samuel Grif-i! fin who is yet living on a farm near ! town. In later years the place assumedtthe name of Griffin and by that name the town is known on modern maps.The first business man wasE. M. Neal who erected the first store and for many years conducted a grocery and drug store. The firsc dry goods store was built by Samuel Griffin in 18S2, who with William Price opened a general store and which was managed in part by James Chaffin of New Harmony. A woman by the name of Mrs. McCoy also owned a small dry goods store iu Grffiin at an early date.The first blacksmith was David Herron, and he continues in business at the same old stand. The first physician to locate in Griffin or Bethel township wasDr. J. F. Brydon. He is still living and*practicing his fjrofession in that community. The first warehouse was erected in 1S01 by William Price, the contractor being Frederic Shuppert. The first elevator was built by J. H. Price in 185)8.
