Anv entertainment there is sure to be enjoyable; but the combination of hosts and guests last Monday night gave an evening of inimitable pleasure. Mr. and Mrs. Rutter have proven themselves unsurpassed in the art of making friends, and Miss Cora Murray is beyond all doubt New Decatur’s most popular belle. The evening was propitious, being just cool enough to make dancing delightful.eniy 1)(invii(1 Scott, Esq., acted as master of ceremonies, assisted by Clarence Gill and C. E. Albes, and their efficient management contributed largely tothe be.1 esprit of the evening. After a brief meeting in the Louis XVI. parlor, with its gleaming white and gold high lights and the sheen of amber satinshadows, the guests filed slowly down the handsome staircase to the hall room. At the door they were met by Mr. H. B. Scott and Miss Mary Lou Dancy, who presented them to the hosts of the evening, Mr. J. E. T. Rutter, Miss (’ora Murrav and Mr. A. F. Murray, in due form. Owing to sudden and severe indisposition, Mrs. Rutter was unahle to he present. This was a severe disappointment to the guests, and many regrets were expressed, accompanied hy hopes of her sjK‘edy recovery. The spacious dining-room of the Tavern makes a stately ball-room, and when the orchestra, after a dreamy overture of Wagnerian melody, sounded the call to the floor, the roomy space was soon tilled by the belles and beauty of the twin Decaturs and their escorts. There were many lovely costumes worn hv the ladies, one oi which became specially noticeable because it had been the weddingndress of the young lady’s mother, no change in the style having been made, except the addition of a lace overdress to the white satin. •Dame after dance sped bv and in a surprisingly short time a sudden lull, a leisurely taking of seats in sociablegroups, and the appearance of refreshments, gave a new aspect to the hall andtinCO]rerfevSlJlan-[ ier-willK'hf,and n inan “ entire change of programme” towilllild-jpal e S.rherSewlaryNoher.tau-ionsute,1 onvert*sue.the guests.Fortified by ice-cream of delicious flavor, and fancy cakes of bewildering variety, the young people were ready for the german. This was gracefully led by Mr. II. 15. Scott and Miss (Ora Murrav. as-9sisted by Miss Ellice French and Mr. J. A. Barnett. A number of beautiful and original figures were introduced, after which the adieus were said, but the spiritof merriment had full possession of all, and a general farewell dance was iiululg-ed in as a last good-bye, while the twinkling stars were fading in the east before the dawn of another day.The following is a list of those present, as nearly as we could ascertain :4 44 44 4theion,jiveein-nal. toi ri-theandtheMr.them \KKii:i rou*u;s.
