Mr. Walter van Noorden, director of the Carl Rosa Company, has secured a treasure in the person of Mme. Mai Kalna, an American dramatic soprano of extraordinary talent and temperament. She has sung widely different roles as Isolde, Carmen, Amneris, Sappho, Elizabeth and Brunhilda, throughout Germany and France. Her engagement should give an impetus to English opera. She enjoys the special patronage of Frau Wagner and the composer Massenet.
