[NEW CLERMONT ROADNEARING COMPLETIONThe new paved Red Mill highway between Gallup’s Corner-?, on the Improved Smcthpon-Emporium roacj, and Clermont is rapidly nearing completion.The oil-bound top dressing is now being applied and it is expected that the job will be entirely finished in another weeks time.This road is being built by the force of the State Highway Dept, county headquarters in Rmcvthport., under the capable direction of County Highway Suptj C. H. Carlson, The job is a splendid one.The new road is of .the crushed stone type, 12 feet wide, and is approximately five miles in length. The construction cost is under $6,000 per mile.This is the type of road which Governor Pinchot adopted for his 20,000-mile paved road program and is calculated to pull Pennsylvania farmers nut of the mud. Exhaustive tests reveal that the new type of road stands up surprisingly well under ordinary traffic.The road has been kept open for travel to Clermont for some time past while construction work has hecn in progress.Completed sections indicate that the pavement will be smooth-riding.The road passes through the picturesque Red Mill brook sect ion—one of the greatest dorr hunting areas in the county, and the sight of herds of wild deer grazing near the roadway is a daily one.
