The Blg-4 Fair. „J i_ • ; . .. . • • • ... * » V ' •• More people from Pocahontas attended the fair at Fonda last.week, than at any fair ever before held in that town. There may be several reasons' for this. Pocahontas is growing in population, the Maroon* went down to..; pi ay ball, the attractions on the fair grounds, and the good roads. The first day, Wednesday, Newell and Fonda playpd ball, thfc tally sheet showing a score of 10 to 0 in favor of Fonda. The next day the Pocahontas .Maroons,?met and defeated Manson, the score being 1-7/to 7. The last day, Newell gained back her lost reputation, defeating Fonda, the score being 0-to 3. •The *Big-4 fair was a success us usual, the exhibits of live stock, 'and in floral hail being some better than they were last year.. Some excellent qualities was shown in the swine department, and the'pens were aboutfilled - up. The racing was good, the,• * • * • •track was in good shape and Jtoe crowd was good [natured and Thursday, was much larger.-than on the same day last year. ' ..A meander down the pike, (it used to be called .the midway) revealed a great .variety of attractions, both masculine and otherwise and in some places the emphasis was hilariously on the otherwise.- There was lemonade stands, chance stands, chuck luck and darn the luck, world renowned attractions,, the . greatest ..ever exhibited under canvass, coon shows, merry-go-round and round weht Mary, and a fat woman show wherein was exhibited a woman around which it was all that Rivard, Williams and myself could do to reach. There’ was a rumor, that the hoochie-koochies were also a part of the exhibits, but for lack of time to see everything, we can not verify the report.Pocahontas won first prize for root ing at Ithe base ball game.
