Pettigrew, of Lamar, Mo., is visiting here among his many friens.Revs. C. E. Line and , Kuhn and several other divines attended our i pioneers meeing. jThe pioneers’ meeting was a grand success in every respect. About 5,000 people were in attendance. About forty old pioneers from various parts of the country were present, and some brought rare relics. Hon. Geo. VV. Cooper, of Columbus, was the orator of the day, and made a grand speech, which was highly spoken of by all present. Quite a number of the old settlers made short speeches,viz: Isaac Wilson, Alfred Phelps,Record, E asm in ger, Smith and others. Good music was furnished by the Edinburg band and Flatrock Glee Club.The oldest man on the ground was Moses Sweney, of Bartholomew county, aged eighty-six years. He wasEresented with a handsome gold-eaded cane. The oldest lady present was Nancy Hatten, aged eighty-nine years. She was presented with a nice water set The crowd was orderly and every one seemed to enjoy themselves. Only one accident . occurred during the day, that was the falling of a row of seats, catching an old ladies’ foot and fracturing one of her leg bones. The association will meet again next year and about three days will be devoted to the exercises.Xavier.
