FIJSLD, CALIFLugosi: the indelible DraculaBela Lugosi, born Bela Blasko, Oct. 20, 1802, in Lugos, Hungary, made his screen debut in Hungarian and German films of the early 1900s. In 1921, he emigrated to the United States and landed small character parts on stage and screen. His most noteworthy success, however, came in 1931 when he starred as Dracula. The “Dracula” image crept into his off-screen life: Lugosi often gave interviews while lying in the count’s coffin. Lugosi took Dracula with him - be was buried in the vampire’s cape! The actor died in 1950, having appeared in nearly 100 films.
