Tama Indians To Give Pageant At Their Annual Pow-Wow Aug. 13-16Sncn*l to Th* Republican.'I'AMA, Aug. 8 —The eighteenth annual Mesquakie Indian jxw wow will be held August 13, 14. 15 and 16 at the reservation west of here along the Lincoln highway.Managed and staged by the In-diV-s. this event Is aimed primarily to afford the Mcsquakirs a chance to show white people the true customs and attainments of the Indians.A program of Indian dances and ceremonies will be given each after-, noon end Thursday and Friday eve-' nings. and on Saturday and Sunday evenings the Indians will present a pageant depicting their tribal history. There will be la rrosso i games, foot races and baseball games. Proceeds of the entcrtain-: ment will be used for the benefit of ! the Indians.The outstanding feature of the exhibition on the grounds this year will be a wickiup or council lodge where the Mesquakies will have their handwork on display. Farm products will also be shown.Concerts will be given by the Tama Indian band, the only one of J!M POWESHIEK,its kind in the middle west, on Sat- jurday and Sunday. And Jim Powe- same days. Poweshiek Is well known ishiek. veteran tribesman, famous as throughout eastern Iowa as a player . a Xlute player, will appear on the,of tribal tunes. __
