Linn Countians AttendWomen’s Vacation Camp■Seventeen women from Linn count] went in bus and cars to Moberly, Mis- ;, j souri, for the first Women’s Vacation jCamp. Judging from the amount of ] luggage the folk around the Court ] House thought they were staying a , month, but everyone had all the ne-j£ jcessities of making camp enjoyable for three days July 31, August 1 and 2,Everyone had a sackfirst meal that was eaten under the ( big pavilion in Rothwell Park at Mo-iberly. The campers particularly enjoy-, aed the meals that thev did not have rIIto prepare, plan or clean up after. Mrs. i s W, J. Street and Mrs, S. D. Edwards planned the menus for camp. MarieMidygett was tne colored cook who j * saw that the food was prepared and: the dishes washed.vdslt;tlThe group registered and were divided into sides of “Daisies” and Poppies.” Mrs. Vera Couch was the ^ cfeptain and Mrs. Roy Maxwell the reporter for the “Poppies,” while Mrs. Ruth Boyles was captain and Mrs. Earl a Campbell reporter for the Daisies.” Prom the time they registered until camp was over the two groups com-: peted one against the other. Lj.Camp life really began when every- ! a] one unpacked and put up cots and sang camp songs led by Mrs. Alex Murrain. camp song leader, Ralph Loomis, rural sociologist, was present immedi- hj ately following the first meal and there pj were folk games and competitive ] fogames. A scavanger hunt closed the evening.histaiariEarly risers had a swim in the lake before breakfast each morning.,Friday lex morning Mrs. Murrain took charge of Sunrise Services which were rather! ^i, impressive.Miss Fitzgerald and Phyllis Baker of the State Extension Service, were present Thursday morning to assist Miss Houston with handicraft work. Each lady made a picture while in camp.Horseshoe pitching, croquet games, Chinese checkers, were among the activities. Mrs. Fred Stevenson pitched her first horseshoe while there. Mrs. Roy Maxwell was the winner of the nail driving contest with three strokes to drive a six penny nail into the wood.Mrs. Vera Couch and Gail Cleveland were winning horseshoe pitchers. Mary Brown and Alta Brown winning croquet players, and the ‘’Poppies” were also Chinese checker winners.Some took naps while others attended a movie in town and still others went down to watch swummers in the water. One evening was spent in playing bingo, having a home talent program and seeing junior conservation activities in a movie given by Miss Faith Watkins. Visitors were the family of Mrs. Archie Brobst.Miss Mary Cross, district health nurse, was right on hand in case of accidents and she took part in all camp activities:Those attending camp were:Mabel Maxwell and Alberta Campbell. Sunshine Workers; Bessie Brown, Mary Dail and Marjorie Murrain,Triple T.; Naomi Keune and ViolaKeune, U-Go-I-Go; Merle Houston, home demonstration agent; RalphLoomis, recreation leader; Maud Brobst, Busy Bee Club; Ruth Boyles. Mother’s and Industry; Belma Stevenson, Friendly Circle; Mabel McKerlie.j and Vera Couch, Fairview; Gail Cleveland and Alta Brown, U-Go-I-Go; Mary Cross, district health nurse;Faith Watkins, picture show program; Madonna Fitzgerald and Phyllis Baker in charge of handicraft work; Marie Midygett, camp cook.Everyone contributed a report for the ^Camp Nuz” paper and on the closing afternoon all expressed the hope of having a similar camp next year.
