The annual convention of the Phi Sigma Chi fraternity was held at Bi loxi Monday, Tuesday and Wednes day, August 3, 4 and 5, at the Buena Vista hotel. There was a represen tation of 25 chapters from different sections of the United States, and the sessions were interesting and in formative. Many social affairs were enjoyed during the convention, among them @ st#¥ smoker on Monday evening at Astleford Place; a boat ride on Tues day to one of the islands in the gulf; Tuesday night the Biloxi chapter was host at a dance at the Buena Vista hotel, Wednesday afternoon a sight seeing tour of the coast, and in the evening the banquet at the Buena Vista with installation of the newly elected officers and moving pictures of interest to the fraternity. The Bi loxi chapter presented each delegate a silver belt buckle with the fra ternity’s coat-of-arms. This was a delightful feature of the banquet. Be side the number of accredited dele gates there were about 25 from this city going down for Part of the meet- The officers elected were: For na ti president, Scott Evanston of Ohio, Pa.; for vice president, Rein DeLoach of Buffalo, N. Y.; western vice president, George Jack son Claire of California; treasurer, Robert Youngblood of California; his torian and statistician, Roy W. Jones of Biloxi, Miss.; editor-in-chief of Chapter Hall, Hoyt Howard, Orange, N. J. Delegates from Mobile were as fol lows: W. P. McDonnell, Sam Mar shall, Ben Marshall, Otis Bancroft, Edgar Flinn, Hawley Sanders, Dud ley Hemphill, H. E. Brewton,J. B. Thornton, Jr., Alex Ogburn, Dwain Luce, and president of the local chap ter, Andrew Murray. The 1932 convention will be held in Los Angeles. Bridge Party Enjoyed At Barrett’s Beach. Miss Alice Lilley was a charming honoree Thursday afternoon when an informal summer party was given for her by Misses Mary Margaret Golemon and Eloise Golemon, and their sister, Mrs. C. E. Jordon, of Montgomery, who is their house guest, when they entertained at Bar rett’s witch bridge. Those composing the group motor ing down at 5 o’clock were the host esses, and honoree and Mrs. A. R. Klaas, Jr., Miss Maude Walker, Miss Grace Ross, Miss Patricia McDon ough, Miss Agnes Terrell, Mrs. C. W. Meyer, Mrs. Charles Posey, Mrs. Ed Jett. One long table was arranged on the pavilion for seating the guests, summer flowers forming the center piece and a salad and sweet course was served with cold drinks. Novelties were given for high score and consolation prizes, and after refreshments Mis. Lilley was surprised with a presentation of pyrex and aluminum kitchen appli ances for her new home, Mrs. 8. C. Black Anticipating Trip. Mrs. 8. C. Blacks enjoying a visit from her sister, Mrs. David Roberts, of Birmingham, who with her two nephews, William and Maruthers Hazard, motored*down the first of the week’ and Friday will have the pleasure of being In a family party motoring down to Gulf Shores for a surf bath. In the party will be Mrs. John Lynch and her two daughters, and the Gaines St. John family and Mrs. Black. Mrs. Roberts’ visit may only be a short one, but the family are using their persuasive powers to make it longer than she first planned. On her return to Birmingham she and her nephews will be accompanied by Mrs. Black, who, after a visit there will continue her trip to Savannah, Ga., to visit another sister, Mrs. Ed ward Frost. Heart Shower Honors Miss Marietta Welch. . Mrs. Paul Wilson was hostess at a heart shower Thursday evening in honor of Miss Marietta Welch, at tractive prizes being awarded in the games and numerous pretty gifts be ing showered on the bride-elect after the games. Snap dragons and other summer flowers were used throughout the home which is located in the vicinity of Eight Mile station. The serving of an ice course brought to a delight ful conclusion, a very pleasant eve ning enjoyed with Miss Welch and her hostess Saree F. Ballard, Mrs J. Sanchez, Mrs. Oswald, Mrs. Mary B. Chambers, Mrs. Johnnie Deegan, Mrs. J. W. Thomas, Mrs. W. H. Merriwether, Mrs. T. W. Wright, Mrs. A. Mere dith of Nashville, Tenn, Mrs. D Wolfe, Mrs.L. Ross and Mrs. Rourke. Misses G. Bosarge, L. Ballard, F. Ballard, Corinna Welch, Eloise Gole man, Agnes Saxon, Marie and Annie Saxon, Margaret Doods, G. Rourke, Margaret and Marie Rourke, Joe Su livan, Rita May Serra, Lucile San- Mr. and Mrs. Lord Delightfully Entertained. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Lord who left last Saturday for a visit to Mrs. Lord's relatives in Meridian, returned to Mobile Wednesday. Their stay was made very delightful with attentions from friends, swimming and dinner parties being given for them each day of their stay.
