During the week following the 4th of July, instant—several alarming Iliots occurred in theCitv of New York. The disturbances have sprung out of the wild, intemperate, and fanatical conduct of whatare termed the Abolitionists and Amalga-mists of that City. As we stated a few weeks ago, in the’nctice of the efforts ofthese individnals to prove that Jesus Christwas a Abgro—their object is to accomplish an immediate and unconditional abolution.of Slavery throughout the United States an deration of the Negros to a free and full participation with the Whiles in all the privileges and immunities of society and Government—and last, but worse than all, an amalgamation of Whiles and Negroes by intermarriage. The advocacy of these doctrines, and the intemperate exertions to advance them by their propogaiors in N. Y. excited the late riots. Hundreds collected and were inaction a number of timesduring several successive days and nights. Sometimes the Rioters dispersed of their, own accord, and,at others the civil Author-ites of the City effected it, and at others the military in large numbers were called out for that purpose. A great deal of damage was done, up to our last date, the 15th July—a number of Churches were verymuch injured, by tlig breaking ot windows, doors and furniture, and some private residences were treated in the same .way. The mob appears to be particularly infu-’ riated against the Rev. Dr. Cox, a clergyman who has singnalized himself bv his zeal in behalf of the Jhnafaamists. Thereis a great deal of human nature in these outbreakings, but they are discreditable to a City where laws exist and should govern. We hope that we lu ve received intelligence of the last disturbance.—Indiana Watchman.
