NEGROES ENJOYED AN OUTING AT PARK.Emancipation Day Exercises at Lakeside Were Attended and Enjoyed by a Large Crowd Yesterday.Emancipation Day exercises were held at Lakeside Park yesterday and the affair was a grand success. Throughout the whole day, large crowds were in evidence at Lakeside Park and the negroes in the surrounding community turned out in full force. Neosho, Sarcoxie, Galena, and all the surrounding towns sent forth full delegations. It is estimated that at least 2,000 negroes attended jthe exercises and that at least a thousand white people also attended. Special cars were run all day to the park and each car was crowded to its utmost capacity.An excellent program was rendered during the day and many speakers j spoke to the large crowds. In the | evening the festivities ended with a grand ball in the dance hall. One of the features of the day was a barbecue, beef and pork being served to the visitors.. The Night Owls, a col-1 ored team played and defeated the! Springfield Midgets in a baseball game.The principal speaker of the day was J. A. Jones, of Britton, South! Dakota, who spoke of the progress of the negro race since emancipation. This was by far the best speech oft the day and was much enjoyed by the audience. The Pittsburg military band gave a concert and the three daughters of Mrs. Bowyers sang several solos. The whole program- was in charge of E. H. Henderson and through his efforts it was made a success and will be long rememberedby those attending. — - — ■-I
