Randle, Packwood gear for events this weekendA rodeo md barbecue viil highlight the festivities in Han die and Paclvood this week end.A junior rodeo, sanctioned by the Northwest Junior Rodeo Association will be held Saturday a ad Sunday at the Mt Adams Trait Riders clubhouse and arena, three miles east of Randle on the old Silverbrook Road,About 20*3 contestants are expected to vie for the red w prizes.Competition will be divided into four categories, junior and senior boys and junior and senior girls, with four events in each category.The rodeo has been named the John Dolan NJRA Memorial Rodeo in honor of the man who was instrumental in its founding, by its sponsors the Mt. Ada m Trail Riders Club.In addition L^e annual Packwood Barbecue, sponsored by the Packwood Improvement Club aDd the Packwcod Fire Department will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the la ’.Vis \Vis campground seven miles east of Packwood on the Mite Pass Highway,More than 500 pounds of beef will be barbecued ever green alder wood by Chef Da'e Tapscott A complete meal will be served with the beef*Adaace Friday at 9 p.m. at the Pack-wood Community Hall, with music by Blake Griffith and the Rustlers, will launch the weekend's festivities. Johnny Mullins will also entertain at thed3oce and at the Sunday barbecue.Saturday and Sunday the community hall will be the setting for a melodrama presented by the Cowlitz Curtain Calfers. GJenoma or Susan Hemenway, Randle, will be crowned rodeo queen and reign over the rodeo which begins at 1p.m. each day.
