Rodeo, barbecue this weekendCattle will be in the spotlight this weekend in Randle and Packwood.In Randle the animals will be ridden or herded in the Randle Rodeo and roasted at a barbecue in Packwood.The third annual John Dolan Memorial Rcdeo begins at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday,The event is sponsored by the Mt-Adams Trial Riders Club and is sanctioned by the Northwest Junior Rodeo Association.The Trail Riders will sponsor a dance beginning at 9 p.m. on Saturday evening. Blake Griffith and the Rustlers will provide the music.Events at the rodeo include bull ridbg, bareback riding, wild cow milking and calf roping.These events ire lor the older boys. Both boys and girls from age to 18 will compete in a variety of eventsincluding cow riding and barrel racing.'Four young women are competing for lie title of queen of the rodeo. They are Denise Nixon of Mossyrock, Viki McDaniel of Salkum. Deanna Lester of Glenoma and Susan Hemenway of Randle.The Pack^ocd Barbecue will be held on Sunday fiora noon to lt;p.m. at the La Wis Wis campground, seven miles east of Packwood on the White Pass Highway.More than 500 pounds of beef will be barbecued over two tons of green alder wocd by chef Dale Tapscolt. A complete meal will be served with the beef.The barbecue is sponsored by the Packwood Improvement Club and the Packwood Volunteer Fire Department.A dance will be held at 9 p.m. Friday at the Packwood Community Hall. Johnny Mullins will entertain at the dance and at the barbecue.On Saturday evening, the Cowliti Curtain Callers will present a melodrama at 7:30. They will play again at 1:30 p.m. oq Sunday following the barbecue*QUEEN OF THE. Rond!* Rodeo will bo ono of these four princesses.
