GOES TO JAILFOR 30 DAYStr1j.ESTRANGE HORSE DEALER ARRESTED ON CHARGE OF LARCENY TAKES 30 DAYS SENTENCEFred Sherrr^n, a traveling horsetrader, tried to convince Justice Po-ainville this morning that he did notsteal a coat which he was chargedwith doing. The fellow 3aid he foundit. On account of a wife and babywhom he was anxious to get back inhe thought he should bE discharged.When these things did not secure hisrelease he said he way intoxicated and did not know whether he stole the coator not.Complaint was made yesterday by Fred Saeger that a sheep-skin lined coat had been stolen from his wagon at the East Side market square. Horse traders who had been there were suspicioned and a warrant issued for the arrest of Sliermau. Sheriff Bluett and the undersheriff caught the layout about five miles west of the city, and searched the wagons. They found the coat hid under one of the beds and placed Sherman under arrest.He shed great big tears in court thismorning, claiming that he found the coat on the ground. Of course he wouldn't think of stealing anything. He was willing to plead guilty to picking the coat up from the ground but did not want to piead guilty to stealing it. He was finally informed that it was necessary to plead either guilty or not guilty, and the poor fellow said he would accommodate tho officials and plead guilty. He was fined S5-00 and costs, totaling something over $15 or 15 days in the county jail-He wanted one of the officers to take a horse as security, hut as that official had seen the animals he did not think it a good investment, so poor Sherman went to jail. Other members of his party are trying to dispose of j one of their animals in order to secure a his release, 11
