Expert:'Mo-Mo'Lives!!OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - “We are convinced something is there. UFO buff Hayden Hewes said Tuesday night in discussing his investigation of Mo-Mo,’’ the Missouri monster.Hewes, director of the International UFO Bureau, called a news \ conference at his Oklahoma City home to announce what he called “confirming evidence” that the creature reported seen in the Louisiana. Mo., area is “an unknown form of hominid. much like the Neanderthal-like man thought to be extinct since pre historic times.”Hewes, who has been involved in investigations of unidentified flying objects for several years, said he interviewed some 20 persons in Missouri who either saw. heard or smelled the monster.The smell, he said, was described as “ungodly.” Sight and sound, he said, could sometimes be misleading, but “when you smell something, you know it’s there Hewes, stooping and swinging his arms in ape-like fashion, told of the descriptions given him of the Missouri monster, then displayed a May, 1969, issue of Argosy Magazine containing pictures of a strange animal shot to death in Wisconsin. He said the description of the Missouri monster matched the creature in the Argosy article.Hewes said two long black hairs picked up in the vicinity of the “Mo-Mo” sightings will be sent to Argosy's science editor. Ivan Sanderson, to determine if they match those from the Wisconsin creature—or if they are bear hairs.Queried about authorities' reports that the Missouri monster is a hoax. Hewes said he, too. found hoax stories in his investigation. But it hasn't shaken his belief that Missouri residents have seen something strange and important.There are four possibilities, he said: The creature is an “experimental animal” left by an unidentified flying object from outer space, it is a prehistoric creature or an escapee from a zoo, or it’s a hoax.Hewes leans toward the prehistoric creature theory “Mo-Mo must be taken alive,” he said. “He’s the greatest anthropological find in history ”He believes, too. that similar creatures have been seen in OklahomaHe displayed a small color snapshot of a wooded area in eastern Oklahoma which he said was given to him by a man who saw such a creature A shadowy spot in the picture was circled and identified as the creature When it was pointed out that an enlargement of the spot only made the figure hazier. Hewes explained that his investigation of UFO’s taught him that the 1 sharp clear” pictures were invariably hoaxes while the more indistinct ones were more likely to be authentic
