Cumberland Argus, Wednesday, August 1, 1951. 5SHERLOCK HOLMES EXHIBITIONSherlock Holmes, that famous creation of Conan Doyle, is probably the only noted character of fiction, who had to be brought back from the dead after his author had thought that he had outlived his usefulness. The famous Holmes tradition has never been allowed to die. and there are few people who would fail to answer correctly the question, “Who lived at 221B Baker Street, Marylebonc?” So it is fitting that the Mary-lebone Borough Council should promote, as part of the Festival of Britain celebrations, a Sherlock Holmes Exhibition, at Abbey House, Baker Street.Among the exhibits displayed are original letters andmanuscripts; foreign and unusual editions of Sherlock Holmes stories; originals of the illustrations which appeared in the Strand Magazine; and material relating to the interests and private life of the great detective. Even the living room at 221B Baker Street, in which Holmes talked over his cases with his friend Dr. Watson, is faithfully reproduced, with the furnishings of the times. It is so real that one may almost hear Holmes say. “Elementary, my dear Watson.”P»mrcAUGUST is Red Cross Membership Month—join your local branch now.
