Bloss roars to first Super Late victory at The RockMAH FELTONSpecial to the Times-NewsCUMBERLAND — Two weeks agoDave Bloss carried a flag in remembrance of fallen Winston Cup driver Dale Earnhardt on board his No. 3Chevrolet Auto RacingSaturday night, Bloss carried the checkered flag in victory lane for his first career win in the Pennzoil Super Late Model feature at The Rock, Allegany County Speedway.“This one is for Dale Earnhardt,” exclaimed Bloss from victory lane, eliciting a big roar from the crowd on the eve of what would have been Earnhardt’s 50th birthday.Bloss grabbed the lead from the pole position and would never relinquish it during the 25-lap event.Bob Gordon mounted an early challenge on Bloss for the lead, only to losethe handle exiting turn two for the first caution flag of the race. Following the restart, Bloss opened up a considerable lead over Eric Zembower, Wayne Johnson, and Dave Troutman.The field continued to string out with Bloss in control until Doug Ishler spun coming of off turn two. Johnson made the pass for second on Zembower back under green.After respectively starting 11th and 13th, Chris Harr and Todd Ritchey were on the move. On lap 15, Harr fought by Troutman for fourth while Ritchey climbed to sixth.Back up front, Bloss had opened up nearly a full second over Johnson and Zembower, but one final caution tightened up the field for the stretch run.Again, Bloss was dominant on the restart, securing a steady three-car length distance over Johnson that would last all the way to the finish. Harr managed to get by Zembower in the closing laps to finish third. Ritchey completedthe top five. Mike Lupfer and Greg FUller scored wins in the heats.Rookie Matt Sponaugle took home his second win of the season in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature.Steve Bard led the first 5 laps of the event under heavy pressure from Brian Lowery, Matt Sponaugle, Kevin Weyandt and Dwane Shultz. Bard began to fade on lap 6, losing the lead to Lowery on the backstretch, then dropped three more spots behind Sponaugle, Weyandt, and a charging J. R. Keifer.Lowery held off Sponaugle for nearly 10 laps until suddenly slowing in turn four to bring out the caution.Sponaugle handily took the checkered flag over Weyandt, Keifer, Shultz, and Gary Kimmell. Heat wins went to Lowery and Keifer.Car builder and renowned modified driver Wayne Larson traveled from Ames, Iowa to assist Donnie Witt withSee — The Rock — 7B
