Ward Buys Jet AirlinerEx-Lethbi Eyes AirEDMONTON (CP) —Wardair Canada Ltd., a northern bush* flying company making a concerted drive for international charter business, has taken delivery of a new jet airliner capable of carrying up to ISO passengers.Arrival of the $5,500,000 plane, a three-engine Boeing 727, also marked the first sale to a Canadian airline by the Boeing Company of Seattle.The plane will make its first charter flight May 1 when it leaves Vancouver for Europe.Wardair has an option on a second Boeing 727 for delivery next April.M. W. (Max) Ward of Edmonton, who launched Wardair in 1953 with one pilot—himself —and a $25,000 bank loan secured by a friend, said in an interview he hopes to base the second jet plane in Toronto. AIRLINER CHRISTENEDThe airliner was christened By Becker at a brief ceremonyidge Man Serviceat Edmonton’s Industrial Airport in honor of the Edmonton lawyer and bush pilot who died last November after helping guide Mr. Ward in operating the company. Mr. Becker’s widow, Lucy, broke a bottle of champagne against the plane.
