linen, groaning under the weight of good things to eat, prepared with the highest culinery skill, there was a feast that any one could surely enjoy. ToastB were drank and many a little pleasantry exchanged while feasting on chicken pie and other things so dear to the heart of the colored man. It whs indeed a pleasant event, and everybody enjoyed it immensely. Not an incident occurred to mar the pleasure of the occasion, the “bad nigger with his razzor” being conspicuous by his absence. The colored folks at West Baden are not rowdyish or quarrelsome, but goodna-tured pleasant people and enjoy a good ! time better than anybody. There were about fifty of them at the ball and each of them seemed to be trying to get as much pleasure out of the evening as possible, and all are free to conies* that it was a most enjoyable affair and also accorded to Otis and his wife due praise as host and hostess and their thanks for affording them such an evenings pleasant enjoyment. Among the ladies present were, Miss Martin, Mrs Fields, Mrs. Farmer, French Lick ; Miss Mollie Taylor, Chicago; Mrs. T. Forrest, Mrs. O. Burnett, West Baden; Miss Tillie Miles, Mrs. Hattie Wilson, Louisville.
