LOUIS, April 28.—The latest Mars thingamajig scare centered in St. Louis tonight.Residents of the city have % been complaining to authorities of “something”—described variously as an airplane with flapping wings, a bird as big as a small airplane, or a combination of both.Mayor Aloys Kaulmann disclosed the two latest appeals for authorities to take action. One letter said:This thing should he looked into, and then we can all j know—is it a bird, a plane or a witch. We don't want no • one spying on us in a flying bird”The other asserted:“St. Louisans like myself are getting pretty upset over this thing because of their 1 , kids going to and from school. Maybe it’s some sort of invention that the enemy has invented and is flying around the city to get a good view.An investigation has been ordered.
