Action film returns to screenATLANTA — An adventurous, globe-trotting 12-year-old will be the focus of a major project involving the full resources of Turner Broadcasting System Inc. as the company celebrates 19^96 as “The Years of Jonny Quest.”The driving force behind the Turner initiative will be a live-ac-tion theatrical motion picture based on the original “The Adventures of Jonny Quest” series. Turner Pictures and Hanna-Barbera have signed Donner/Shuler-Donner and Tribeca Productions to produce the live-action motion picture slated to begin production in 1995.In addition, Hanna-Barbera isproducing a new two-hour “Jonny Quest” animated movie — which will launch the effort in the first quarter of 1995 — to world premiere on Turner Network Television (TNT). Hanna-Barbera also will produce a new animated “Jonny Quest” television series due for arrival in the fall of ’95; Turner’s licensing and merchandising, publishing and home video divisions also will be mobilized in the initiative, with more plans to be announced.Dennis Miller, president of Turner Pictures, said, “In the spirit of ‘The Flintstones,’ the theatrical debut of ‘Jonny Quest’ will be a motion picture event combining all of Turner Broadcasting’s resources.
