Concert Band tuning-upThe Richardson Concert Band is tuning up for its second summer series and is looking for musicians to fill vacancies in all sections.Band Publicity Chairman Larry Martin said that three tentative dates are set for May already. The band has been invited back to the Julia Schepps Theatre Center, has a park dedication date and has been invited to play at Richardson’s Promenade Center. The band, patterned after old time community concert bands, is made up of amateur musicians who jumped at the chance to keep up their musical skill last summer when the band was formed under the direction of Southern Methodist University’s Joesph Frank.Professions represented by band members include doctors, engeneers, scientists, summerbusinessmen, advertisers, teachers and houswwives.Their muscial talents are also varied. “Our first seatsare mostly filled with high school band directors,’’ Martin said, “but many of our musicians, like myself, have only minimal talent. I don't play a great trumpet and they haven’t kicked me out.’’The band’s trademark is concert marches, but they also play light and heavy classical music and popular arrangements from writers like Richards Rodgers. Those interested in joining the concert band can do so by dropping by the Wednesday night rehearsals at the J. J. Pearce High School Band Hall or by calling Martin at 235-7450. “We’re afraid that some musicians might be scared away because they haven’tseries ;(played in a long time. The band is a great way to win back musical talents you may have lost. I wouldn’t be playing the trumpet at all if it weren’t for the band.”There’s a $10 entry fee charged to help build up the band’s library. Martin reports that individual expenses are minimal.RCC drive nears endSaturday is the final day of the Richardson CommunityConcert Association’s annual membership drive.Membership Chairman James Sherritt said that membership in the association entitles the bearer to attendance
