Folklore Society PlansSibecosti/ o Celebrate 40th Y ear rPueblo, will discuss “The“40 Years nf Folklore” will be the slogan for the New Mexico Folklore Society when it meets May 8 in Taos,The society was founded in March, 1931, when five Albuquerqueans met in University nf \'ew Mexico Hodgin Hall to plan for studies in Indian, Spanish and Anglo folklore SINCE the organizing group needed officers, members selected each other - Anita Osuna and Lolita Pooler, both of the Spanish Dept , were named president and secretary, T. M. Pearce,English Dept , first vice president: Lansing Bioom.History Dept., second vice president, and .James P.Threlkeld, owner of NewMexico Bookstore, treasurer The first program was held in Old Albuquerque in the fall, with an exhibition of Spanish colonial arts and crafts and Mary Austin, novelist and folklorist, as speaker. Annual meetings began in 1948.Guadalupe Baca Vaughn, first vice president, will have charge of the 26th all state meeting in Taos. Featured will be Indians from Taos Pueblo, who will have an art exhibit, traditional dances and a discussion of the Taos Round Dance song Indian games, including El Canute, a gambling game, also will he featured CONSTANTINO VfELLO, Tony Isaacs. Telesfoi Romero and Jacob Bernal have charge of the part of the program Ann Reyna, also of TaosStory of the Squash Blossom |\Necklace” Lorenzo Suazo IIand Santanito Marcos will 1/direct youngsters from pueblo in dances.special interest to toSpanish folklorists will be rnalabarios sung by Cleofas MVigil. San Cristobal, and Hchildren's hand and finger Mgames presented by Guadalupe Vaughn. Meliton Trujillo will sing Spanish folk h!songs. John D McKee, former ,spresident of the societv, will base his story of “Clay Alii- 1son's Christmas” on an account left by Will Robinson.
