Wiedorhold, chairman of the Carroll Park Commission, announced Friday that city parks are ready for full summer activities.The new enclosed shellerhouse in Southside Park, with dual facilities including two fireplaces and two sels of kitchen equipment, has been completed and is ready for picnickers. This new 30 by 50-foot building is of stone construction with shingle roof. An ei?hl-foot patio on the east side, new drinking fountain, and foundation plantings of evergreens ha e been installed.Formal GardensFormal gardens in- Graham Park will be improved with the addition of a rose garden and more plantings of colorful annuals. Commissioner James M. Gillett said that the Park Commission hopes to develop the garden^ into one of the beauty spots of Iowa. Commissioner Joseph P. Frank has drawn plans for a fountain together with automatic spray controls and colored lighting to be constructed in the center of the garden. *Work on the log cabin In Graham Park has been completed. This authentic log dwelling originally* was built on (he bank of the Middle Raccoon River near Coon Rapids by 1852 by an unknown fur trapper, an early settler of Carroll County. It was moved to Graham Park in February 1957, where it will be maintained as a historical museum. The Park Commission asks that anyone having antiques to place on display in the cabin ■ contact Commissioner Wiederhold.'Seating FacilitiesThe commission has purchased seating facilities to be placed infront of the Graham Park band-*shell for summer evening band concerts.• •Members of the commission are keeping an “eagle eye” on the Dutch elm disease and its progress in this area.
