On February 9, 1898, he married Lula Jane Franklin, who sur- ' vives, together with a daughter^ Mrs. John Beard; three brothers, Ed Bal- ! kema, Stockwell; Garrett Balkema and ' Harry Balkema, both of Lafayette; one half sister, Mrs. Kate Schrader, and a half brother, John Bolt, of Pratt. Kas. Mr. Balkema was a member of the Baptist church at Badger Grove, but had lived 22 years in this community.Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the residence, with the Rev. C. H. Loveland of the Methodist church officiating. Burial in Rossville cemetery.
