Johnson, the mesmerist who gave a series of exhibitions here about a year ago, has been astonishing the people of Lafayette. lie delivered a lecture on mesmerism in tin* parlor of the Lalir house before several practitioners and other scientific men. At the close of the lecture lie put two jiersons under the mesmeric influence, when I)r. S. T. Yunt cut away an elongation of the palate in one instance, and removed a large and painful boil in the other. In both cases the subjects were as perfectly insensible as though subjected to the most powerful ienesthetics. On restoration to consciousness, they declared they had not experienced the slightest twinge of wain. The surgeons arc perfectly non-plussed.
