Duchesne'sBeginner Band Makes GoodShowing*Last Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16, there was a big crowd and a lot of music over at •icn thirty three bands, from three states; Utah, Colorado and Idaho, attenl the annual contest and exhibition spon-, sored by the Price Chamber of Commerce. Duchesne was on hand, with Roosevelt and Vernal bands, thirty two from, this town, with the total of about 1,400 band members in the total aggregation. It has become an annual event over in Carbon county, one of real value to the people there, as well as a stimulus to band music over a wide territory. Each band ■ provided it own expenses, except beds were provided by Price free for the visiting musicians.Duchesne's band got second place in class D In the concert work. Several solo3 were given by members of this band, viz:,, Gerald Stromberg, trumpet; Ruth Stromberg, clarinet; Maurine Billings, flute; and Douglas Smith, on the trombone.Mr. Johnson, leader of the band feels good about the trip, as all passed off in good order, no accidents or disappointments, and it was a genuine treat for the boys and girls who participated. L. A. Yost, well known leader of the Ft. Douglas band, which come3 out to Ft, Douglas each summer, acted as one of the judges.*Following is the list of local members who went: Frank Davis, Gerald Stromberg, Laura May Lyman, Bud Bell, Ray Houlton, Howard Mitchell, Wallace Stephenson, Howard Powell, Thos Alp-lanalp, Molly Munz, Marjorie Crocker, Ruth Stromberg, Gerald O'Toole, Laird Billings, Jay Bell, Barbara Allen, Douglas Smith Wayne Mitchell, Elma Robbins, Billy Murdock, Dean Peterson, Maurine Billings, Jack Barton, Brent Smith, Larange Davis, Ellsworth Curran, Clifton Cowan, Stephen Nance, Owena Young, LaPrcal Adams, Alyce Stephenson, and Glen Garvin. Many Duchesne people went out with the crowd. Price may well be proud of her effort to do something worthy. It is a practical way of doing something of considerable merit. Every Duchesne member who went, was helped. Duchesne should keep that thirty-two members playing and by July 4, wc shall all come to hear them, for twenty miles around. Some way to keep them together is surely justified. We need music, and good bands are without equal.
