Cleveland Council wants Z-Rock graffiti removedBy CINDY LEISE C-T Staff WriterCIiEVELAND — City Council passed a resolution Monday night.asking for help getting rid of graffiti touting the former Z-Rock radio station.The ordinance, passed unanimously, was introduced by Councilman David McGuirk, who represents the West Park area.It asks owners of the former WCZR, known as Z-Roek, to hire contractors to remove the graffiti, take out advertisements discouraging it and establish an award fund to punish those responsible for the vandalism.The ordinance says the radio station, which now goes under the call letters WNWV, FM 107*3 and is known as The Wave, is owned and operated by the Chromde-Telegram. However, the station is part of the Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting Co.The Lorain County Printing and Publishing Co., the C-Ts parent company, owns a major interest in the Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting Co.uary Kneisley, general manager of The Wave, said, “We certainly discourage it”Z-Rock had a loyal following but the new format is proving extremely popular, Kneisly said.“It’s targeted at the 25- to 54-year-old upscale adult and it’s a mixture of soft rock, light jazz and new age music,” he said.McGuirk said Monday night, “I'm asking the owners ... to remove the proliferation of graffiti which has become a wave of vandalism in the West Side area.‘The vandals thought that somehow this would bring back their radio station.” McGuirk said. “They have a social and moral duty to join with this council and remove graffiti.*’
