Major Art Work DiscoveredA major piece of artwork has been discovered at the Robbins Hunter Museum. ‘•Portrait of a French l*dy” was found to have been painted by Eliphalet Frazier Andrews, a painter of great fame.Paul Goudy, director of the Hunter Museum, said the painting was known to the people in the house, but until they sent it to the framers for cleaning and restoration of the frame, no one knew who had actually painted the portrait. The owners of the Framing Shop found the signature and notified Goudy.Since that time, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. has requested the painting be loaned to them for display in that art gallery. Goudy said the request is pending authentication of the Andrews signature. The painting is believed to be ooe of Robbins Hunter’s ancestors. Goudy said Hunter always kept the painting rear him during his life in the house. He said the connection with Andrews seems to be that the Hunter family was from near Stuebenville and Andrews was also from that city.
