Jttosanaer jhb, nanaicap xn.Oscar Rhudie Talks On Experiences As Japanese PrisonerOpening his talk with the comment that it was just three years and two months since he had been liberated from a Japanese prison camp, Oscar P. Rhudie, of LaFyette, told Rotarians of his experiences in the Philippines during the wan Group was holding their weekly meeting in LeClaire hotel.Other guests were M. H. Braden, of Lake Calhoun, and Lawrence Hagney, of Galva, who are partners of Mr. Rhudie in a new business, Galva Burner Company. W, O. Houghton was the program chairman for the day.Mr. Rhudie was in the foundry and machinery business and later a producer of cocoanut oil. Following the occupation of the Islands by the Japanese, he was a prisoner in the Santa Tomas camp and later at Los Banos camp, where he was rescued February 23,1945, by a group of 129 paratroopers from the 11th Airborne Division.β€˜Til never forget that day,” Mr, Rhudie told his listeners. He commented that he had lost 80 pounds during his internment. His wife was also a prisoner of war.Give To Cancer FundAt the opening of the meeting which was conducted by Duane R. Peart, a donation of $10 was made to the cancer drive Which is currently being conducted by the American Cancer Society. Dallas P. Brown, secretary, stated that a letter had been received from the local committee asking for the contribution.Group singing was enjoyed with John Kurtz as director and Leonard A. Smith as the accompanist.
