»■!»•The Saloons of Delphi Visited. The Appeal to tile Dealers. In visiting the Saloons in this city o■ •t' last Saturday, the following appealwas read to the liquor dealers:WE COME TO SAVE.Our mission is through Christ, to save men from the curses of strong drink. “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and whosoever is deceived thereby, is not wise.” “Woe unto him that put-teth the bottle to his neighbor’s mouth.” ‘| Dealer in strong drinks think of this. Behold upon our streets the wrecks of once noble manhood—our fathers, hus-**t bands, sons, and brothers, ruined by intemperance, while their wives, and children, in the wretched places they call home, are suffering the agonies of cold and hunger and poverty. Say not as did one of old, “Am I my brother’s keep er?” lest you hear again the voice of the Lord, saying to you, “What hast thou done? the voice of my brother’s blood crietli to me from the ground.” Think! 'of the wealth you are accumulating as the price of blood—the price of immorfjtal souls, for it is said, “No drunkard can enter the kingdom of Heaven.” We come to you in love. In the name of Christ our Master, we beseech you, for your own sake, for our sake, for the sake of humanity, that you will pledge yourself to quit this ^unholy traffic. Our united prayers will daily ascend to the God of mercy for you,—that you may be forgiven all that is past,—that he will enlighten you by his Holy Spirit until you fully comprehend the awful character of this business; and for these victims of intemperance, that they may be strengthened by Divine power, and made able to resist this temptation. This, our appeal, we leave with jou,Urtrusting in Him. whose aid we implore, that Ilis Spirit may be made to influence your action and save you from that “Woe,” and your patrons from the drunkard’s grave. 8oon we hope to singsongs of rejoicing over the success of this work of the Lord’s. O, brother; “cease to do evil, aud learn to do well.”Last Saturday the “Ladies’ TemperanceUnion” met in the Good Templars’ Hall, for the purpose of selecting a committeeto carry the above “appeal,” to the Sa-loou keepers in this city: Rev. MrsRanney, Rev. Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Dimmickand Mrs. Allen, were selected to do thework. It was proposed that all themembers present, act as an escort to thecommittee. The proposal was t^yorab’yreceived, so they marched out into thecity double file, quietly and decorously. When they reached a saloon they brokeranks and the committee carrying the“Appeal” passed down to the door andinto the saloon, if permitted. If not, theladies formed in a body around themwhile the message was delivered to theproprietor. Two places were closed, audthe proprietor of one of them stood onthe step and said to the forty-four ladiesconfronting hini, ‘‘You can’t come inwe don’t wan’t you, this is no place foryou.” Another one said, “Get out ofthis, I don’t wan’t you here.” One ofthe devoted band immediately replied,41why don’t you give our husbands, sons, and fathers, such an invitation when theycome in here.”These ladies went in love and goodfaith, and they intend to keep on goingIt is conquer or be conquered, Womenarc not easily conquered when they arefighting tor home and love and happiness. What mother would not fight tokeep her son from such foul dens? ’Tisthe mothers who are leaders in this crusade. There is nothing so strong asmother love, and Salooft keeper, you willAnd it out.
