OC FILM REVIEWlt;Raggedy Inn And Indy' Delightful FareBy CANDICE BUSSELL Knight-Ridder NewspapersRaggedy Ann and Andy” is everything that its extraordinarily imaginative animators had in mind: a full-length cartoon to rival the best output from Walt Disney Studios. This musical adventure featuring the popular child’s dolls has a psychedelic array of colors, delightfully goofy characters, an ingenious story filled with danger and escape, a score by Joe Raposo (creator of the songs for TV’s “Sesame Street”), and humor sure to please mom and dad as well as the kids.What with the prohibitive cost of animation lately, there have been precious few such features of merit recently. Yet there was no stinting on either color or effects, dreamlike and enchanting to a child's eye as “Fantasia.” Employing some of the world’s finest animators, director Richard Williams (himself the creator of “Pink Panther) has put together a 90-minute film which seems a fraction thatlong. Best endorsement of all, kids squeal routinely as Raggedy Ann and Andy embark on a series of crazy adventures in the deep, deep woods where they’re not supposed to go.The brother and sister dollswould never have left the playroom of seven-year-old Marcella, but Babette, the French doll given to the child for her birthday, was kidnapped by the lovestruck Captain Breaking loose from captivity in a paperweight, the Captain sets sail with Babette into the worldoutside the playroom.Though frightened of what they might find. Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy determine to rescue Babette by venturing out into the night. They meet the Camel with Wrinkled Knees, a turquoise beast with a Southern accent and a back end with a mind of its own.
